"I came into Safeway because I was very sick and needed a prescription (I don’t have anyone to do this for me). I choose to buy a few food items on my way out. The customer in front of me in the checkout line contested a $2 overcharge on a bundle of bananas. The cashier called for help and it took 10 minutes for an available staff person to assist. Meanwhile, I was too sick to be standing for so unexpectedly long, so my knees buckled and I crashed onto the floor, hurting myself. Manager spent a few minutes getting nowhere with the inconsiderate customers in front of me. After catching my breath, I was able to stand again (extremely dizzy and disoriented), the line had backed up halfway to the back of the store, all because of a $2 banana price discrepancy. All I received from the staff (manager, cashier, and other attendants) was an attitude… no apology or anything even remotely close to any sympathy, just a “bad business as usual” response. This total disregard for safety and desire to skimp costs by reducing staff is outrageous (all while prices keep increasing much faster than inflation). It’s not the first time that understaffing and poor customer service has been a problem, but now it is becoming a physical danger and this cannot be tolerated. If I were the manager and an ill customer passed out because he was trapped by an overcrowded line stopped for 15 minutes, I would have done something. Instead, the manager was completely dismissive."

"It has got to be illegal to charge full price for reheated food. Its definitely 1 or 2 days old. The rice, beef and chicken all turn to mush once you start to chew. Wont be eating there again."

"When I go to Safeway in Kenai or Soldotna I noticed the managers are very pleasant and kind and respectful. Soon as you go down to Homer complete opposite rude disrespectful uncooperative. Will the managers are jerks all of your store director mostly he's rude is condescending. The atmosphere in Homer is ice cold. No one down there is friendly they're all rude, disrespectful you have a few managers down there that look down on people that are on food stamps. That's just my opinion."

"Our local Safeway is really awesome. The isles are always clean, shelves are always stocked. We have very decent folks who offer great customer service! One thing I really appreciate is the fact that if you sign up for their rewards card (free) you earn points to get money off of your gas! ⛽️ This has ended up saving us so much money! It is definitely worth shopping here as opposed to Walmart! I also really like the fact that they offer Alaska Grown items. We can actually buy local grown produce and even cheese here. That is something that makes it special is the ability to buy produce that was grown locally and didn’t spend a bunch of time and costs in transportation."

"This store is convenient, but I only shop there when absolutely necessary. Employees are the saddest and most unfriendly group of people I’ve had to deal with."
